The Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the Ontario Research Fund (ORF) have funded a multi-million dollar collaborative initiative between the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University in southern Ontario, Canada. The aim of this initiative is to establish a research and digital data cooperative that will enable a range and depth of archaeological research on an unprecedented scale. The project is headed by Dr. Neal Ferris, Principle Investigator for Sustainable Archaeology centred at the University of Western Ontario and Dr. Aubrey Cannon, Principle Investigator for the McMaster centre. Together, these research facilities will consolidate archaeological collections from across the Province of Ontario into a single digital database and remotely accessible research center. This initiative will launch archaeological studies in Canada into the Digital Age, curating raw data and enabling a new era of exploration and analysis of human history in Ontario, Canada. |
